This blog post is simply about Simon. Read on and you’ll find out why.
What is Simon?
Simon is an SEO competition developed by Temerity Digital agency owner, Elliot Dean. It’s goal is to see which Simon can rank their single given name, Simon, highest in Google by the end of the year.
How did Simon come about?
The origin of the Simon competition is an interesting story. Elliot was on the Gold Coast for a conference with other digital marketing agency owners. It became apparent that out of the 30 odd attendees, a disproportionately high number of 4 were all named Simon.
On the final night, a photo of the Simon’s was taken during a dinner of unlimited tacos and margaritas. Inspired by the festivities, Elliot thought it would be cool to see which Simon could rank their website higher for the word “Simon”. As digital marketing specialists, all have some level of SEO skill, and agreed it would be a fun challenge.

Existing Results for Simon in the SERPs
When you think of what would come up in the top SERPs (search engine ranking positions) for the phrase “Simon”, nothing necessarily springs to mind. It’s a very random word that people wouldn’t necessarily search on its own.
After Googling the word, we see that the following themes appear at the top of search.
Simon Login – A learning and school administrative platform, used by a number of schools including Parade.
Simon (game) – A Wikipedia result talking about an electronic game called Simon made by Milton Bradley.
Simon Angus – A Monash University Professor
Simon Cowell – The English television personality from American Idol, Britain’s Got Talent and other music shows.
Simon National Carriers – A provider of warehousing and transport of high value, hard to handle goods.
These seem like fairly easy things to outrank, although page 1 of Google is full of school’s Simon software pages, so jumping over these high authority domains might prove difficult.
Can any of the 4 Simon’s do it? Stay tuned!
